The CSCS® designate, or Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist®, is of highest level of fitness professional training certifications that can be achieved. The test is administered by the National Strength and Conditioning Assocation® (NSCA®). Athletic training centers in most all universities and professional sports arenas have CSCSs work with the athletes to help maximize sports specific gains and help avoid injury. Whereas most fitness instructor/personal trainer certifications require only reading a book and taking a test, the CSCS program is much more involved. To be eligible for the test, the applicant must have at least a bachelor’s degree in a sports medicine-related field. This, alone, demonstrates that the CSCS has at least 4 years of education/training before being eligible for the examination. The National Strength and Conditioning Association® administers the test and confers the title to those who pass the examination process. The exam has two parts: one part on exercise science (nutrition, biochemistry, kinesiology, physiology, etc...) and the other part on exercise program assessment and implementation. It is a very difficult examination and it takes a good amount of time to prepare for the test.
Dr. Manison is very proud to be a CSCS. He is also a member of the NSCA. As a sports rehabilitation specialist, having a good knowledge base of injury assessment and treatment is important, but so too is knowing how to educate athletes of all levels in regards to sports-specific training to help maximize their results. The CSCS designate goes along with Dr. Manison’s training and commitment to offering the highest-level quality of care and knowledge for sports injuries of all kinds. It ties the knot between sports injury treatment and sports conditioning, both being very important to the athlete and their goals. Dr. Manison is one of the only chiropractors in the area who is also a certified strength coach. |
