About Dr. Allen M. Manison


Dr. Manison owns and operates Columbia Advanced Chiropractic, LLC in Columbia, Maryland (Howard County). He has received certifications in Chiropractic Adjunctive Physiotherapy from New York Chiropractic College and Advanced Chiropractic Adjunctive Physiotherapy from the National University of Health Sciences. Dr. Manison is also certified (and re-certified) in Cox flexion/distraction from the National University of Health Sciences. Dr. Manison has been published in the Journal of Chiropractic Medicine, one of only two medically indexed journals. Dr. Manison also just finished writing a chapter for a sports medicine technique manual. This should be in print by early October 2012.

He currently holds licenses to practice chiropractic in Maryland and Pennsylvania. He is a member of the Maryland Chiropractic Association and American Chiropractic Association. He is also an associate medical director and claims reviewer for a nationally known insurance contractor. Dr. Manison is also the medical director for Corrigan Sports Enterprises (CSE).

Dr. Manison is a Diplomate of the American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians® (DACBSP®)  This is the highest level of sports training a chiropractor can receive in the field and he is one of only 300 in the country.  Before being able to pursue the Diplomate curriculum, Dr. Manison first had to become a Certified Chiropractic Sports Practitioner® (CCSP®).  Dr. Manison has also undergone extensive training and has earned the designate of Certified Chiropractic Extremity Practitioner (CCEP) from the Council on Extremity Adjusting. He was certified in Applied Kinesiology from the International College of Applied Kinesiology in 1998.

Dr. Manison has obtained a certification as a Golf Rehabilitation Specialist through the University of Bridgeport College of Chiropractic. This was an 84 hour program. He is continuing his golf education and recently became a TPI (Titleist Performance Institute) Certified Golf Fitness Instructor. He is also a TPI Medical Level 2 Certified Professional. Dr. Manison intends on continuing his education with TPI as it is the authority on golf movement assessments and rehabilitation.

As one of only a handful of professionals in Maryland, Dr. Manison has achieved the title of Low Speed Rear Impact Crash Reconstruction Specialist from the Spine Research Institute of San Diego, as well as a certificate for advanced training for diagnosis, treatment, and management of motor vehicular cervical acceleration/deceleration (CAD) trauma. Dr. Manison is one of only two people in the state of Maryland who has attended actual crash studies. The information obtained from this cannot be learned in any other form.

Dr. Manison has achieved Advanced Certification in the Graston Instrument Assisted Soft-Tissue Mobilization (GISTM) technique (or Graston Technique), a highly advanced and efficient technique developed for treating soft tissue pathology.  Dr. Manison is also a full body licensed provider of Active Release Techniques (ART).  This technique is highly effective for treating a whole host of soft tissue and nerve entrapment issues.   Dr. Manison was the first licensed Active Release practitioner in the Columbia/ Ellicott City/ Southern Baltimore/ Howard County, Maryland region.  He has most experience with this technique in the area. The technique is sought after for triathlon participants, volleyball players, Crossfitters, marathon runners, and athletes of all sports. Dr. Manison is proud to be an ART Ironman Provider.

Dr. Manison is also a Certified Kinesio® Taping Practitioner (CKTP®). The Kinesio® Taping Method is one of the most sophisticated taping techniques in the world.  It allows for facilitation, inhibition, and functional corrections of the musculoskeletal system. Dr. Manison is also a 'Rock Doc'. This means he is a certified FMT (Fascial Movement Taping) practitioner from RockTape. This advanced form of taping is unique in the industry and works with the principles of Anataomy Trains® to help patients restore function and improve sports performance. Dr. Manison is certified in Dry Needling by David Fishkin, DC, MPH of the Dry Needling Institute, LLC. This powerful soft tissue technique adds another treatment approach for Dr. Manison to utilize. He is the first certified chiropractor in the Columbia / Ellicott City / Howard County, MD area in Dry Needling.

Dr. Manison also holds the certification as a CSCS® (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist®).  This certification requires that those passing have a high level of knowledge in the assessment and design of exercise and nutrition programs for athletes of all levels.  Dr. Manison is also a Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES) and Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES) as certified by the National Academy of Sports Medicine® (NASM®). These specialization programs, which can only be taken by those candidates with at least a bachelors degree in a sports-related field, involve material ranging from assessment of injury/imbalance patterns tested with functional activities and ways to correct such issues to in-depth material about exercise science, nutrition, psychology, and conditioning and sports performance enhancement for athletes of all levels.

Dr. Manison is a cum laude graduate of Life University (a chiropractic professional graduate school) in Marietta, Georgia. He was one of only two students in his graduating class of 242 to receive the Clinical Excellence Award for performing more than 500 adjustments during his clinical internship. He was also selected as one of 12 students out of 4000 to be a Senior Assistant, a position that also included an academic scholarship. This job enabled him to supervise and educate students in a clinical setting about the proper application of chiropractic technique and proper diagnosis as well as assist the clinic doctors in the day-to-day clinic operations. Dr. Manison was also active in several technique clubs and held a supervisory position and instructed for the Motion Palpation club.

Prior to his doctorate education at Life University, Dr. Manison attended the State University of New York (SUNY) at Binghamton, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Law and Society with a minor in Spanish and a concentration in pre-medicine.

Dr. Manison is the official chiropractor for the Baltimore Marathon, Frederick Half Marathon, Baltimore 10 Miler, and NVL/CSE Pro Beach Volleyball Preakness. As medical director for Corrigan Sports Enterprises, he is responsible for organizing medical staff for sporting events.

Dr. Manison is also a partner in Pro Form Instruction, LLC, a company that provides CECs (continuing education credits) for personal trainers and other fitness professionals.  Classes given incorporate education in areas of kinesiology, anatomy, injury prevention, specific sports-related material,  disease processes, etc...  The company offers a comprehensive Advanced Certificate program as a Healthcare Fitness Liaison (HFL) for those who successfully complete an intense 36 hour program.  The program (with quizzes, tests, and practical portion) is aimed at helping fitness professionals so that they can better train their clients and work with the medical community!  Either the whole program or  individual classes are administered in-house and can be given anywhere in Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, or anywhere else!  Individual classes are 3-6 hours long and there are many to choose from.  The classes are approved by ACE, AFAA, the NSCA, and others.  (Please feel free to contact Dr. Manison should you have a need or know of any athletic facilities that have a need for top-tier education for their fitness professional staff). 

In his free time (which isn't that much these days), Dr. Manison enjoys weightlifting, golfing, skiing, hiking, reading, studying, playing with his dog, riding his motorcycle, spending time with his wife and daughters, and participating in any activity that involves the outdoors, sports, and nutrition. His wife is currently an attending pediatrician at Walter Reed Medical Hospital Center.

Dr. Scott Vanina

 

 

Dr. Scott Vanina is a graduate of Northwestern Health Sciences University where he obtained his Bachelors degree in Human Biology. He then continued on to earn his Doctorate of Chiropracti in 2003. Dr. Vanina holds licenses to practice Chiropractic in the states of Maryland and Minnesota. Dr. Vanina is a Diplomate of the American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians® (DACBSP®)  This is the highest level of sports training a chiropractor can receive in the field and he is one of only 300 in the country.  No other practice in the state of Maryland has two Sports Diplomates. Before being able to pursue the Diplomate curriculum, Dr. Vanina first had to become a Certified Chriopractic Sports Practitioner® (CCSP®).  Dr. Vanina is also KT1, KT2, and KT3 certified from Kinesio Tape®. He will soon be taking the Certified Kinesio® Taping Practitioner (CKTP®) examination.

Dr. Vanina also received training to become a licenced Emergency Medicine Technician (EMT). This helps him with assessment and treatment of on-field injuries.

Dr. Vanina owned and operated Performance Chiropractic & Sports Clinic in Grand Rapids for nine years. He has worked with patients with all types of neuromusuloskeletal disorders and he specializes in treating athletes.

Dr. Vanina has served as the chiropractic consultant and team trainer for the Grand Rapids High School Boys Soccer program as well as the Grand Rapids Jaycees Football program. He was the consultant and EMS director for the Grand Rapids Lacrosse Association and was a consultant for the coaches of the Grand Rapids High School Boys and Girls Swim teams. Dr. Vanina has also been the consultant/trainer for Division I Hockey Players and has consulted with many regional coaches on the topics of sports performance and injury prevention.
