When most people think of chiropractors and what they do, the spine comes to mind. This is usual and understandable. Although most all chiropractors are only trained to treat spinal conditions, Dr. Manison has extensive training in the assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, and prevention of sports and extremity injuries. Dr. Manison is one of only two or three chiropractors in the state of Maryland who holds the designation of Diplomate (DACBSP®) of the American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians®. This training confers the highest level of sports and injury training a chiropractor can receive in the field.

n addition, Dr. Manison is one of only a couple Certified Chiropractic Extremity Practitioners (C.C.E.P.) in the State of Maryland and he will begin teaching parts of this program in 2016. In addition, Dr. Manison is a Certified Golf Rehabilitation Specialist (now also a level 3 Titleist Performance Institute certified practitioner) as well as being an  Advanced Certified Graston Technique Practitioner. Dr. Manison is also full body Active Release Techniques (ART) certified. There are only a few full body licensed Active Release practitioners in Maryland and Dr. Manison was the first licensed provider in the Columbia, Ellicott City, and Howard County areas. He has vast experience with this technique.

Dr. Manison is also a Certified Kinesio® Taping Practitioner (CKTP). As the past official Baltimore Marathon Chiropractor as well as the medical director for Corrigan Sports, along with working several large CrossFit competitions, Dr. Manison has a lot of ‘game day experience’ treating a host of extremity injuries. Drs. Manison and Surprenant construct functional foot orthotics in the office (Alines) and they can apply advanced taping techniques for a host of sports injuries. The doctors are also certified in Dry Needling.  This is an amazing technique that helps musculoskeletal injuries on a neurological level. Dr. Manison believes that many times extremity problems can cause spinal problems and vice versa. However, many times the problem only involves the extremity (extremities) involved. In the field of chiropractic, to effectively identify extremity problems and render the proper treatment protocol, additional specialized training is necessary. Dr. Manison at Columbia Advanced Chiropractic, LLC has advanced training to properly assess and treat extremity injuries.

Drs. Manison treats extremity conditions such as plantar fasciitis, ankle sprains, gait abnormalities, knee pain and tracking disorders, hip dysfunction and pain, shoulder joint problems and rotator cuff tears, elbow tendinitis and tendinosis, wrist injuries such as De Quervain’s Disease, hand injuries, and more. Not unlike the spine, your extremity joints can be dysfunctional due to a host of reasons. In addition, sprains/strains are very common. Advanced training in this area of treatment allows the doctors to better identify the cause of the problem and formulate an appropriate care plan. Should diagnostic imaging and/or a referral be necessary, Dr. Manison works with excellent practitioners in many different fields of medicine. When choosing a chiropractor / sports rehabilitation specialist in the Columbia, Ellicott City, Howard County, MD area, you can be sure that Dr. Manison offers top notch care!
