Regenerative Medicine Step 3: StemWave and SoftWave ESWT (Part 2 of 2)

Cliff Notes for Both ESWT Blogs before we go forward:
1.  StemWave and SoftWave offer electrohydraulic ESWT that is proven to be beneficial for a multitude of conditions
2.  The science behind Electrohydraulic Shockwave Therapy is fascinating and has significant advantages over other forms of acoustic and pressure wave therapies
3.  StemWave and SoftWave regenerate tissues like nothing ever demonstrated before
4.  StemWave and SoftWave are unique and worth a try before more invasive intervention (ex. surgery)

**Please note that you do NOT need to be an active patient to benefit from StemWave and Softwave.  You can simply make an appointment.  This also applies to Hbot and NormaTec.

As we learned from Part 1, electrohydraulic shockwave therapy is an amazing technology.  Although no one treatment intervention can fix every problem, StemWave and SoftWave most certainly addresses conditions that no other intervention can help.  The excitement over shockwave therapy is palpable.  It’s real.  The research pool continues to grow and more and more treatment applications are being discovered as time goes on.

Integrative medical doctors and manual medicine doctors should move into ways to help patients regenerate muscles, ligaments, cartilage, and nerves.  It’s THAT important.  It’s also important to be aware of what the international shockwave community is saying about extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT).  Is this all a farce or is it legitimate?

The main source for ESWT is  shockwavetherapy.org and a great amount of information can be found there. The most impressive aspect of ESWT is the continued movement forward with clinical successes and research that is validating the use of ESWT for so many non-“classic 4” (tennis elbow, plantar fasciitis, shoulder tendinopathy, and bone non-unions) conditions.

The biggest area of interest for ESWT (as we are presenting at Columbia Advanced Chiropractic, LLC) is in regenerative medicine. From gene activation to protein synthesis, to nerve regeneration, tissue regeneration, and more, this exciting technology is a huge advancement for those who work with neuromusculoskeletal injuries.  StemWave is truly a “stem cell machine”, as per its name and SoftWave uses the same technology.  Both are being shown to help the body regenerate at a very deep level.

I don’t wish to get too deep here with the science, but I’ll touch on it.  The next blog will be specifically on how true ESWT DIRECTLY affects stem cell recruitment along with activating the immune system to combat inflammation and pain.  Simply put, tissue injury signals the body that something is wrong by releasing RNA fragments (called Damage Associated Molecular Patterns).  The body identifies this problem and sends help.  When it does this, it activates the immune system, along with stem cells.  These cells differentiate, and by doing so, create the cells necessary to fix the problem.

Electrohydraulic shockwaves moving at over 3300 mph mimic tissue injury effects by triggering cells  (it does not actually create any tissue trauma).  The body identifies problem areas and activates the immune and neurological system to send help…in the same fashion as an actual injury.  This is called mechanotransduction.  This is the biochemical response in your body to mechanical stimulation.  In a nutshell, this is how electrohydraulic ESWT helps to recruit stem cells to repair damaged tissue.  It literally enhances the regenerative process.  Again, much more on this with the next blog!

As we read in Part 1, StemWave and SoftWave ESWT offers therapeutic benefits that are above and beyond what other shockwave units can supply.  They meet the threshold of true shockwaves.  Their penetration is far greater than pressure waves created by radial waves (especially StemWave).  While it is no surprise that the FDA has cleared ESWT for plantar fasciitis and elbow tendinopathy, what is interesting is that most all manufacturers claim their units provide good results, even without being tested specifically.  A recent study in the Journal of Foot and Ankle Surgery demonstrated how the SoftWave is a successful approach to plantar fasciitis.

StemWave and SoftWave are both cleared for use by the FDA and SoftWave has been cleared as a Class 2 device for wound healing. We are offering both for those looking for a unique and highly successful approach, based on the research, for conditions including, but not limited to, peripheral nerve regeneration, diabetic neuropathy, lateral epicondylitis, plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinitis, insertional Achilles tendinopathy, other tendinopathies, ischemic spinal cord injury, reduction of inflammation to aid heart tissue regeneration, coccydynia, stress fractures, stem cell activation, cell proliferation, wound healing, to help people avoid surgery for certain musculoskeletal disorders, and progressive systemic sclerosis.  This is by no means a complete list!

It is our hope that we will succeed to dramatically improve the quality of life of many people and these regenerative interventions and knowledge gained from using such will be used to add to the collection of medical literature (we would like to publish some of the successful cases).  This is important as successful interventions should be known and techniques made available so others can apply the same approaches to help more people.  This is just the beginning of what should be an amazing ride!
